Weekly Notices - 14th June 2026

This week, as we are reminded that the Kingdom of God is near, I would like to tackle our Gospel charge in a slightly different way to that of previous sermons I have delivered.

We know that in sending out His field labourers, Jesus meant for us to go out and build His church – which is entirely what we are meant to do as Christians! This of course, can be done in several different ways and it is this thought that has caught my attention.

If we are to start building God’s kingdom here on earth, we must return to ‘ground zero’ and begin by forming good relationships with those in our community. We look around us and we see so many of our neighbours and friends who choose to spend Sundays doing family stuff, out on the children’s sports fields or at picnic parks with those they love. The changing of our laws to allow for Sunday Trading meant that after a busy week of work, families now choose to set aside Sundays for re-filling their freezers and pantries and for re-stocking wardrobes for their children.

All of which are fine in today’s commercial culture – but that leaves us no time to spend with our God; He who gives us the means to be purchasers of good things!

I think it is time that we looked deeper within ourselves and talked to those around us about giving back to God His due!
