Weekly Notices - 24th May 2026
After spending a few days cloistered with other clergy and our Bishop at Clergy Conference, it is good to be back on deck!
Our Church now takes us into the Season of Pentecost – a time of great joy and anticipation for us as a parish as we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit.
Pentecost is one of the most significant moments in Christian theology. Rooted in Jerusalem during a major Jewish festival, Pentecost unfolds in a setting already rich with cultural diversity. Pilgrims from “every nation under heaven” gathered in one place, bringing with them different languages, customs, and worldviews.
The descent of the Holy Spirit did not occur in isolation but in a multilingual, multicultural environment, emphasizing that the message of Christ was never intended for a single region or people.
Our Readings highlight the birth of the Church as a global community. The Holy Spirit empowers communication across boundaries, signalling that the gospel is universal rather than localized.
The miracle of language reveals that God meets people where they are, in the language and culture they understand.
So let us celebrate our unity in our diversity! And together, continue to work towards making our beautiful church setting a shining light and a place of welcome to all who enter our doors.
May God always bless St Aug’s,
Your Friend and Vicar, Kofe
