Weekly Notices - 5th April 2026

Before we can even proclaim to each other that “Christ is Risen; He is Risen Indeed,” we need to pause in the busyness of our lives and reflect on Jesus’ last few steps to the Cross.

As I write this, our Government is choosing to ease up on Good Friday and Easter Sunday trading laws – yet another step towards a wider secularization of what we once knew as NZ being a Christian country.

We as a nation are choosing to water down our faith as people walking with Christ, and instead, are feeling more at liberty to acknowledge the beliefs of other religions in that ugly dimension of Political Correctness. We are loosening our values as Christians who want to make a difference, and instead, we so easily give in to the noise of Cultural Fairness.

As we walk with Jesus to His Cross, let us be reminded that He (in the midst of all His healing, feeding and being present with others) NEVER allowed Himself to give in to the ideologies and weaknesses of those who stood against Him.

This weekend, we will walk and sit with Jesus in the quiet solemnity of his painful walk from that upper room to the place of Golgotha. I pray that we can all be looking at our lives and the ways we have all caused Jesus to stumble in our lives.

And when we gather on Sunday, let there be absolute Joy in His resurrection – the foundation of what we all believe! He is Risen Indeed!

God bless St Aug's,

Your Friend & Vicar, Kofe.

Vicar Kofe

This Sunday’s Service (5th April)

Theme: EASTER Sunday

Sentence: This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.     Psalm 118:24

Collect:
Glorious Lord of Life,
we praise you,
that by the mighty resurrection of your Son,
you have delivered us from sin and death
and made your whole creation new;
grant that we who celebrate with joy
Christ’s rising from the dead,
may be raised from the death of sin
to the life of righteousness;
for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever.
Amen

Readings: Acts 10: 34-43 Matthew 28:1-10

Our clocks need to be turned back in the early hours of Sunday morning! So allow for the change, and be here on time for our 10am Easter Sunday rejoicing!

Our AGM date has been set for Saturday, 18th April.  Please pray over this most important meeting, and let the Vicar know if you're interested in being a part of our Vestry: no age barriers; we are looking for strong voices who be a part of our decision making group.

MONTHLY PRAYER FOCUS

As we work our way through the year, the Prayer Working Group (Liz, Jenny, Christine) would like to lead you through a journey of praying together, as a church, for one carefully selected topic each month.

And here’s the topic for the month of April:

Prayer for our own families: spouses, partners, children, grandchildren…..

Before we pick up on praying together for our church, our community, our world etc, we wanted to join together in praying with you for your very own family.

Next to the Prayer Table with the candles and Prayer Box is a board where, at any time in the month of April,   you are invited to place the names of your family members who you would like us all to pray for.   You can either write their first name(s), or simply put their initials.  Then each member of the parish is invited to glance at these names from time to time, pray for these people as you read their names, then continue the prayer during the week right throughout the month of April.  The Sunday Intercessors will also pray for this group of people  (but without stating individual names)

Many of us have family members with big needs, or have long prayed for our family members to commence (or recommence) their own spiritual journeys as they open their lives to God and his grace.  There are many who we long  to return to the faith we brought them up in.  Here’s an opportunity for the whole parish to join you in your heart-felt prayer!

Now glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more that we would ever dare to ask or even dream of – infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts or hopes.  (Ephesians 3: 20 – Living Bible)
