Weekly Notices - 1st March 2026

As I write this, our little family prepares to celebrate and give God thanks for husband Leni’s 65 years on this earth. Smack-bang in the middle of Lent, Leni has chosen a small celebration of the Eucharist at home this evening with the only child who remains in Christchurch, and our grandson. We will laugh over the trials we have overcome together as a family – there were many! – and the opportunities we have had to be a family of Christ above all else.

Our annual Lenten journey takes us through a period of deep self-reflection and appreciation of God’s Love and Gifts of Life. We are given the opportunity to intentionally call up our past and name those things we need to change in order that our family homes are places where God alone sits as our eternal, unseen but embracing guest.

This is a time when, looking towards the Cross, we hold Jesus’ journey and invite Him into our hearts. This is a time when we move together to feed the poor and be companions to the lonely. This is a time when our conscious decisions are made around the homeless and the disheartened… if we can find a way to be present with the less fortunate and with those in need, our walk through Lent is a more poignant one of Christian Love.

May God always bless St Aug’s

Your Friend and Vicar, Kofe.

Sentence: God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. John 3:16

Collect:
Come Holy Spirit, to all baptised in your name,
that we may turn to good
whatever lies ahead
Give us passion, give us fire;
make us transform the world from what it is,
to what you have created it to be.
This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

This year, we will be heading for an earlier than usual Easter.
- come and join us as we journey through Lent, being marked with the cross of humility, mortality and penance.

Our AGM date has been set for Saturday, 18th April.  Please pray over this most important meeting, and let the Vicar know if you're interested in being a part of our Vestry: no age barriers; we are looking for strong voices who be a part of our decision making group.

The church is being opened to the public each Thursday afternoon between 1 - 3pm.

This is a great opportunity for you or others you may know to walk through our beautiful doors and sit in the quiet holiness of our space. Everyone is welcome, and we thank Kristine & Mick Mckey for this ministry.

Messy Church

We are aiming to run one sometime in Term 1 next year.

See the photos below to see what our previous ‘Messy Church’ session looked like!

What is ‘Messy Church’?  Messy Church is a church for everyone who may not feel comfortable attending a ‘normal’ church service and who don’t yet belong to a church. It typically includes a meal, hands-on activities such as arts, crafts, meeting God in the outdoors, science activities and more, which are suitable for all ages.
Check out the NZ ‘Messy Church’ website! www.messychurch.nz

Please be warned that with the commencement of our roof repairs we have LOTS of scaffolding around the place to be aware of.  In particular this affects parking near the Hannan Centre ramp.

Be careful out there!

(And here are a couple of shots of the team in the skyline)
